This hunt was successfully completed
with 20 turkeys being harvested by the participants. A great time was had
by all, and Whispering Cedars Baptist Camp did a wonderful job in hosting the
event. We thank the WCBC staff and volunteers who helped make this a great
hunt.
Many private land owners and farmers
graciously gave permission to hunt on their property. We appreciate
this greatly. Seth McCullough, Rodd Vande Wall and DonMiller, guides
for the hunt, went early to secure this permission. Thanks to the
landowners for allowing us to hunt on your property. It is
appreciated.
Hunters and guides attended the camp
from Ohio, Michigan, Minnesota, Iowa, and New York State. We are
hoping to present a camp in the same time frame next year. In fact
we have several who have told us to hold a spot for them!

We
wanted to show some of the pictures of the Turkey Camp 08 highlights.
One
of the first birds down was that of Sean Wood. This bird was a
candidate for the Biggest Bird Down Award for a long time. He was
taken on Friday morning, weight in at 23# 6oz. The bird had long
spurs, just over 1 1/4" in length and a nice beard. Rodd Vande
Wall was the guide w ho called this bird in to the gun.
We
also had many others experience success. Doubles were possible, but
not frequent. I had the opportunity (Jack McCullough) of calling in
a pair of birds for a father/son team who came all the way from New York
to hunt with us. Joseph and Daniel Gallop were able to take their
first turkeys together! What a neat memory to share and
experience. The birds were nice, mature birds. Daniel's bird
was just over 18# and Joseph's was over 21 #.
